What are yearly influences?
Liunian (流年) means the stem–branch pair for a year. In 2027, the stem is Ding (丁), Yin Fire; the branch is Wei (未), Yin Earth. Traditional reading compares this pair with a person’s birth chart and current cycle.
The natal chart is fixed by birth details, ten-year cycles provide a longer context, and the annual layer changes each year. Everyone shares the year’s pair, but it forms different relationships with each chart. Read from the wider context to the narrower: natal chart, cycle, then year.
BaZi changes its year at 4 February 2027 09:46, Start of Spring. Zi Wei commonly uses Lunar New Year on 6 February 2027. Times here are Taiwan time (UTC+8). This page switches its displayed target to next year on 1 September.
What the results include
- Ten Gods: the year stem and hidden stems compared with your Day Master, including any stem pairing or clash.
- Pillar relationships: repetition, clash, pairing, tension, friction and disruption between the year branch and each birth branch.
- Zodiac and Tai Sui: the year-branch relationship, with both year-boundary conventions shown when they differ.
- Ten-year cycle: the applicable cycle, its stems and branches, and its relationship to the year. A known birth time is required for its starting age.
- Zi Wei: with a birth time, the annual Life palace, four transformations, ten-year period and all twelve annual-to-natal palace mappings.
Calculations share the full chart engine, including birthplace-based apparent solar time and the late-Zi rule that retains the current day pillar after 23:00. Explanations describe traditional themes rather than predicting events.

For BaZi, births before Start of Spring use the preceding year branch. Tai Sui considers only that branch, while the personal result also compares month, day and hour. See the 2027 Ding Wei reference guide for that year’s example birth years, traditional observances and monthly sequence.
How to read BaZi yearly influences
- Find the Day Master: the heavenly stem of the birth day.
- Compare the annual stem and the hidden stems of Wei (未) with it. The visible stem describes the outward theme; the main hidden stem Ji (己) receives the most emphasis among underlying conditions.
- Compare the annual branch with each pillar. Different positions refer to different traditional life areas.
- Read the year within the current ten-year cycle.
The Ten Gods are symbolic element relationships: peers share the Day Master’s element; support produces it; expression is produced by it; wealth is controlled by it; authority controls it. Yin–yang polarity distinguishes the paired roles. The names are not literal deities or ratings of a year. See the Ten Gods reference.

How to read Zi Wei yearly influences
This tool locates the annual Life palace at Wei (未), the year branch, then overlays the four annual transformations on the natal chart. The position is shared, but its natal life area differs. Find the branch of your natal Life palace, then use this table.
| Natal Life palace at | Annual Life palace occupies natal… |
|---|---|
| Zi (子) | Health palace |
| Chou (丑) | Travel palace |
| Yin (寅) | Friends palace |
| Mao (卯) | Career palace |
| Chen (辰) | Home palace |
| Si (巳) | Well-being palace |
| Wu (午) | Parents palace |
| Wei (未) | Life palace |
| Shen (申) | Siblings palace |
| You (酉) | Relationship palace |
| Xu (戌) | Children palace |
| Hai (亥) | Wealth palace |
The stem Ding (丁) gives these four transformations: Tai Yin (太陰) — Lu · resources; Tian Tong (天同) — Quan · initiative; Tian Ji (天機) — Ke · recognition; Ju Men (巨門) — Ji · preoccupation. The stars are the same for everyone; their palace placements differ. Other schools may locate the annual Life palace using minor cycles or Dou Jun. Read the Zi Wei yearly transformations guide for a fuller explanation.
Frequently asked questions
- How do yearly influences differ from ten-year cycles?
- A ten-year cycle is derived from the month pillar and varies by person. A yearly stem–branch pair is shared by everyone: 2027 uses 丁未. Its relationship to each person's Day Master and birth pillars differs. Read the year in the context of the natal chart and the current ten-year cycle.
- Can I use this without a birth time?
- Yes. Select the unknown-time option to calculate the year, month and day pillars, their annual relationships, zodiac and Tai Sui. The hour pillar is omitted. Without a birth time, the starting age and ten-year cycle cannot be determined, and personal Zi Wei palace placements are not shown. The four annual transformation stars are still listed for reference.
- Why might another website give different results?
- Differences include the year boundary (Start of Spring or Lunar New Year), apparent solar time and late-Zi day rules, the method used to locate the annual Life palace, different transformation tables for Wu (戊), Geng (庚) and Ren (壬), and which Tai Sui relationships are counted. This tool uses the same birth-time and chart rules as our full BaZi and Zi Wei tools.
- When does the 2027 annual cycle start?
- BaZi changes its year at Start of Spring: 4 February 2027 09:46, Taiwan time (UTC+8). Zi Wei commonly changes the annual layer at Lunar New Year, 6 February 2027. This page starts displaying next year's reference information on 1 September each year, using the Taipei date; that display schedule does not change either traditional boundary.
- Does a difficult-sounding Ten Gods label mean a bad year?
- No. Labels such as Seven Killings or Rob Wealth name structural relationships; they are not verdicts. Their interpretation depends on the whole chart, element balance and current cycle. This page reports calculated relationships and common traditional themes without deciding whether a year will be good or bad.
Open the free BaZi chart for pillars, elements and cycles, or the Zi Wei chart for palaces, stars and natal transformations. Optional readings are explained on the plans page.
These are calculated chart relationships with common traditional explanations, not a verdict on a particular year or medical, legal or financial advice.
