These are teaching keywords, not immutable personalities. A star’s companions, brightness, transformations and connected palaces change the traditional reading.
Zi Wei in the Life Palace
Zi Wei is one of fourteen stars, not a guarantee of a better life. Across the twelve branch positions it appears alone or with Tian Fu, Tan Lang, Tian Xiang, Qi Sha or Po Jun. These are the six standard grouping types, with different contexts.
The table below shows the actual paired positions. Calling all of them simply “an emperor star” hides differences in structure and encourages a flattering conclusion without evidence.
How the whole layout follows one position
The lunar day and Five-Phase Bureau locate Zi Wei. Its group is then placed at fixed relative offsets. Tian Fu’s position is related to Zi Wei’s, and its own group follows fixed offsets from Tian Fu.
Once Zi Wei’s branch is known, the remaining thirteen main-star positions are determined. The twelve-layout table below is produced by the shared engine and displays every branch’s occupants.
The table is about star positions. Palace labels depend on the person’s month and hour, so the same star layout can be read through different life areas.
An empty Life Palace
Fourteen stars are not distributed one per palace. A layout can have several palaces with no main star, and Life can be one of them. Traditional practice consults the opposite Travel Palace together with supporting stars and transformations in the original palace.
“Borrowing” the opposite stars is an interpretive convention; it does not physically move them in the stored chart. An empty Life Palace is not a missing personality or an inferior chart.
Life Ruler, Body Ruler and brightness
The Life Ruler is selected from a lookup based on the Life Palace’s branch. The Body Ruler is selected from the birth-year branch. Either star may actually sit elsewhere. Do not substitute these labels for the main stars occupying Life.
Brightness describes a star’s traditional positional condition. It is not astronomical luminosity measured by the application and is not an overall rating of a person. A bright star still needs context; a weaker positional label is not a life sentence.
Using a real chart carefully
Locate Life first, identify its occupants, inspect the opposite and trine-connected palaces, then add the natal transformations. The public fictional example in this article family uses 1990-03-15 10:00 in Taipei so the positions can be reproduced.
The engine calculates placements. Interpretive themes remain traditional claims. In particular, Zi Wei’s Qi Sha star must not be confused with BaZi’s Seven Killings relationship, even though the Chinese name is shared.

The explanations here are our own English wording. Classical titles and Chinese symbols identify the source tradition; they do not imply agreement between all schools.
The declared Zi Wei calculation convention
The tables and public fictional examples share the chart’s palace, star and transformation data. Modern star descriptions are interpretive summaries, not quotations from a single classical text. Agreement with the calculation does not establish predictive accuracy.
