Hexagram 34 · Kun / Earth (坤) palace · Earth (土) · Fourth generation (四世) · Six-clash

Da Zhuang · Great Strength

Hexagram 34, Da Zhuang · Great Strength, has Zhen / Thunder (震) above Qian / Heaven (乾). It belongs to the Kun / Earth (坤) palace, whose reference element is Earth (土).

Updated

Da Zhuang has Wu Fire Parent at Self on line 4 and Zi Water Wealth at Other on line 1. Water controls Fire, so the Other side symbolically constrains Self. All five categories are visible, but the six-clash structure adds rapid change and difficulty maintaining a fixed arrangement. Strong imagery does not remove the possibility of outside conditions setting the pace.

Relationships

Other controlling Self can frame an imbalance in influence or conditions, while Parent at Self adds family or responsibility concerns. Six-clash symbolism raises questions about continuity. It cannot establish that the other person is controlling or that separation is inevitable.

Money

Wealth at Other locates the resource focus on the external side. Its control of Self suggests conditions, effort or pressure attached to access. The six-clash theme may describe rapid turnover, but this is not a recommendation for short-term speculation.

Career

Parent at Self emphasizes procedure, obligations and practical work. External resource constraints are symbolized by Other controlling Self, and repeated Sibling roles invite attention to shared interests. The six-clash structure adds change; actual plans and agreements determine how to respond.

Health

The chart’s traditional pressure and relief roles are not a measure of medical resources or disease speed. The useful reflection is to notice strain and changing circumstances without using the hexagram to diagnose or delay treatment.

Health themes are traditional symbolism, not a diagnosis. Seek medical care for symptoms or concerns.

These themes describe the static structure. A particular cast also needs its moving lines, month and day, and focus-line context. The same hexagram can support different interpretations in different situations.

Judgment and Image

Judgment大壯:利貞。

Image雷在天上,大壯;君子以非禮弗履。

The Judgment links great strength with steadiness rather than force alone. The Image of Thunder above Heaven emphasizes acting within appropriate bounds. The point is disciplined use of strength, not permission to push past every obstacle.

The Chinese Judgment is from the Zhou Yi; the Image is from the Image commentary. The displayed Chinese was collated against the recorded sources. This English explanation is our own, not a quotation from a modern translation. Read the Chinese source (opens a new tab).

Reading the structure

Hexagram 34, Da Zhuang · Great Strength, has Zhen / Thunder (震) above Qian / Heaven (乾). It belongs to the Kun / Earth (坤) palace, whose reference element is Earth (土).

This is the Fourth generation (四世) stage. Self is line 4: Wu (午), Fire (火), Parent (父母). Other is line 1: Zi (子), Water (水), Wealth (妻財). Self locates the questioner’s side; Other locates the counterpart or target. They do not by themselves determine an outcome.

The palace element is the reference for the Five Relationships: what generates it is Parent; what it generates is Child; what controls it is Officer; what it controls is Wealth; the same element is Sibling. These are symbolic subject roles, not necessarily literal family members.

All five relationship categories appear in the visible lines, so each subject category has a direct structural reference. This does not establish a favorable outcome or predictive accuracy.

This is a six-clash hexagram: lines 1/4, 2/5 and 3/6 clash in all three pairs. Traditional themes include speed, dispersal and change. Whether continuity or closure is being sought matters; the flag alone is not a verdict.

Frequently asked questions

Does this guarantee a quick result?
No. Six-clash suggests movement, while Other controlling Self adds a separate constraint. Speed is not the same as an easy conclusion.
Does Other control prove the counterpart dominates me?
No. It is a symbolic direction that needs the question and actual behavior for context.
Do all five categories make the prediction reliable?
No. They provide references to inspect, not a measured prediction accuracy.
